Microsoft is finally discontinuing Windows XP across the globe. Support will definitely end by April 8th, 2014. XP is 14 years old and is completely outdated. It represents a liability to businesses since it is a security risk and Microsoft will not be providing updates nor security patches for XP any more. Having XP on a workstation means leaving a door open to hackers that can obtain company information and pose a threat to your entire network.

If you are running XP on any of its versions you will notice a pop-up message as soon as you start the computer. This message is being pushed by Microsoft and it signals the end of life of the product.

We urge you to contact Telx so we can suggest an update plan to Windows 7 and make sure all your workstations are XP free.

A PC Support contract is a long- or short-term contract that is designed to ensure ongoing technical support for a company’s technological assets. This ensures that technical problems can be dealt with quickly and efficiently by someone who is familiar with systems.

TelX Computers, offers remote and onsite computer repair services for business located in Miami including (Brickell, Miami Gardens, Hollywood, Pembroke Pines, Hialeah, Miami Beach, Miami Lakes, Miami Spring and Miramar)  announced today that they now provide repair contracts services which cover all types of computer support, from small virus issues and software malfunction to hardware repair and network maintenance.

The two primary Information Technology Services are provided by Telx Computer are: Help Desk, and On-the-Spot Support. Help desk Service over the phone can help solve software issues, and is faster and cheaper than calling an onsite technician. As an added benefit, Telx’s help desk service is available 24/7 to troubleshoot software-related issues.

On-the-Spot support is the deployment of a computer repair technician to a location, when a problem can’t be resolved over the phone. This is usually for hardware issues and computer repairs, and Telx Computer’s technicians come equipped to fix the most common hardware issues on the spot.

In addition to on-the-spot and help desk support, Telx also provides remote desktop support, which is a remote link between computers that technicians can use to control the client’s computer and show them how to resolve problems, or resolve it themselves.

Proactive support is also practiced readily by Telx, such as employing preventative antivirus software and firewalls that shield against hacker attacks and network penetration. Telx is
Telx Computers provides pricing and more information toll-free at 1(800) 698-3594 and is available for live-chat on their website. Telx also provides tech support alongside the sale of new systems, which they also support fully.

Because e-mail is one of the most important and used tools for communication in business today, larger companies find it necessary to have a robust and proprietary e-mail system. Down time, delays, or network intrusions can be costly, so having a Microsoft Exchange server dedicated to an individual company can help prevent, and resolve, many issues more quickly. Telx not only provides, but also supports large systems of this sort.

Is your PC taking a long to start up, and when it starts does it show some applications that are opening up not even when you instructed for them. Here we provide you with some of the tips that should be adopted by your side to improve the boot time of your systems

Turning off startup programs:

For turning off some of the unwanted programs that pop up as soon as you start the computer the below mentioned simple procedure can be followed which will avoid the unnecessary popping up of programs and will also increase the speed of the computer and also restrain your access to those programs. The steps are:

• Go to the “START” button and click on “RUN” option. After this type “misconfig” in the window that appears in front of you.As soon as you press enter another window appears.

• In the second screen click on “startup” button, and then disable or uncheck the program that you wish not to appear when you start with your windows.

• After this the system will be required to be restarted and you will notice that the unwanted programs that were appearing earlier are not popping up again.

Clean up:

A tip that is most commonly adopted and is suggested is to clean up the unwanted files from the computer. The best tool that can be downloaded for free through the internet is CCleaner. Other than cleaning up the system and increasing the boot time it also helps by making the system more secure.

Once you have downloaded the software you just need to follow the below mentioned steps:

• For this go to the “RUN” option and type ccleaner.exe. In the second screen that appears just click OK and it deletes all the unwanted files from the system.

• It mainly clears Temporary files, history, cookies, Auto complete form history, download history, Recycle Bin, Temporary files and Log files from internet explorer, Firefox, chrome, opera, safari, and windows.

Performing Disk cleanup:

Disk cleanup is a program that is present in most of the operating system. We just need to follow some easy step to get it into use so as to improve the boot time of a system. For performing this operation follow the following mentioned steps:

• Go to the “START” then to “programs” followed by clicking on “accessories” >> “system tool” and finally on the disk cleanup icon that appears.

• After this the system automatically starts the cleanup procedure. At the start of the procedure a screen appears that show the locations from where the extra files will be removed.

• If you want the clean up for some selected location just uncheck the block corresponding to the section you don’t want to have clean up for.

This procedure will definitely not provide you with a completely new system but will definitely reduce some of your seconds that were consumed by it at the time of startup.

Removal of programs:

Another method that is suggested most commonly to enhance the boot up is: removal of the unwanted programs from the computer. Some time while installing some software we accidentally install some of the unwanted programs or we install some program that are no longer in our use. Uninstallation of such kind of program boosts the startup of the computer. Let has the look at the step followed to remove the unwanted program from the system.

• Start by clicking on “control panel” option that appears after you click on the “start” option. In the control panel window you can locate a program named “Add/remove programs”.

• As you will click on the “Add/remove programs” you will get a list of the programs that are present in your system.

• From this list one can easily detect the programs that will not be needed by them and what are just occupying memory.

• To remove the unwanted programs just go the particular program and click on “remove”. By this the selected program gets uninstalled from the system.

Above mentioned steps as some of the most commonly adopted ones to increase the boot time of system.

If by doing these still your computer does not start quickly that means there is some other problem for which you can always call computer repair technician from an IT company who can fix and address all issues so that you can have a fast and a efficient system as it was before.

A computer viruses is a type of malware that cause most of the problems in your PC like a system slow down, harm your PC, the most crucial ones can affect your data files and folder and even cause damage worth billions of capital. Some Viruses often perform harmful activity such as it stills hard disk space or CPU time, or may access your private information, and may corrupt your data, display political or humorous messages on the screen. . And the worst part is viruses can travel from one part of the world to another in less than seconds taking away all your data and systems files as computers are interconnected.

The Top 5 Most Expensive Viruses:

Code Red (2001): Code Red was a computer worm observed on the Internet on July 13, 2001 and named after the “Code Red Mountain Dew”which the discoverers of this virus were drinking. The Code Red worm caused more than $2 billion in damage. The worm exploited a vulnerability in the indexing software distributed with IIS web server and exploited weakness in the indexing software. When the worm infected a computer, it looked for other computers in the network to exploit. The virus was so widespread that it even penetrated to the White House’s server. Ironically, just a month ago prior to the attack, Microsoft had released a security report advising their users to set up a security patch in order to shield them from this kind of attack.

Melissa Virus:

The Melissa virus also known as “Mailissa”, It is a mass-mailing macro virus.Found on March 26, 1999, Melissa shut down Internet E-mail systems that got blocked with infected e-mails propagating from the virus and have affected up to 20 percent of computers worldwide. This included the networks of many other companies that relied on MS Outlook as their email client.People were forced to shut down email server, in order to prevent the virus from spreading, as well as to eradicate the virus from their system.

Conficker (2008):

The most current and worldwide spread internet virus also holds the title for the most dangerous computer worm. It targeted the Microsoft Windows operating system ranging from Windows 2000 to Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 and infected more than 12 million computers worldwide by now. It killed upon flaws within the system, gaining administrator access on infected computers. The virus is so hazardous that it started affecting the networks of the French Navy; the U.K. Ministry of Defense; the Manchester City Council and police department.

ILOVEYOU (2000):

Also known as “Love Letter” virus, one of the trickiest computer malware, infected more than 15 million computers worldwide. The virus infiltrated email accounts and sent messagesentitled “I Love You” with an attached file to it. Due to this lovable message, people attracted andinstalled the file and what they got was a code that started sending messages to the first 50 email addressessaved in a Microsoft Outlookand deleted important PC files.

MyDoom (2004):

As indicated by its name, MyDoom was fastest e-mail virus causing $38 billion in damage. Its growth rate was much faster than any other virus discovered so far and it attacked PC with Microsoft Windows via user’s email accounts. The virus infiltrated email accounts and sent messages entitled “Mail Delivery System,” “Test,” “Mail Transaction Failed” or “Error.” When a victim opened the email, the worm infected the computer’s shared folders and sent item.

Use these tips to avoid Computer Viruses:

Open emails with caution

Open only those emails that you expect. If you get an unexpected message with an attachment from a person you know, call the sender first to confirm the authenticity of the correspondence.
Update antivirus frequently

To prevent a malicious interference, download the security updates for your computer and anti-virus software as they become available. Set up the programs on your computer so they check for and install updates on a daily basis and schedule automatic virus scans.

Don’t surf unknown websites

To prevent an attack, set the safety measures on your browser, and stay away from sites that seem shiny or make promises that are too good to be true, quickly close the window if your browser pops up a warning about a potentially dangerous site. And never agree to a virus scan from pop up window.

By following the tips mentioned here, you can prevent a malicious attack and keep your data and PC completely protected and error free. Still if your PC is infected by virus best thing to do is to contact your IT service provider or computer technician to fix the issue immediately.

Did your computer just got stuck, and you think you can fix it up on your own. Here are top five things that should be considered by you before you try to fix your own computer.

Try to keep back-up of all the data:

The most common problem that occurs with the computer is that with time they slow down, or they may be infected by downloading a file that is having virus. In such a situation it is advisable to format the system that restores it back to the previous setting. But then after formatting the user finds out that their music, videos or driver’s shows problem which is mainly because these files get deleted during formatting. To avoid such kind of problem it is advice to keep a back up files of the entire driver folder before going for formatting.

Remember the fact that you are not an IT professional:

Today computers are all around us; it is one of the most important electronic devices that are used by companies around the world. But then they also encounter some problem that hinders their operation. In such a situation even if you try everything in your capability you are not able to fix it. In such a situation remember that you are not a qualified IT professional. Just contact a computer repair service provider in your area that can help you by fixing your computer.

Better to operate the system in safe mode to fix the problem:

Safe mode allows the windows to load the internal system critical problems that interfere with the operating system. To reboot the system to the safe mode, restart the computer and as soon as the system is restates start tapping the F8 button. After taping the button two to three times a screen appears that provides the user with the facility to shift the system to the safe mode. One the problem has been fixed computer can be brought back into normal operation mode.

Differentiate the problem, before you try to fix it:

PC problems can be split into two areas, first area comprise of software problems which are the cause of many of the PC problem and the second category consist of hardware problems which usually don’t kick in until the PC is few years old. Before you try anything to fix the problem understand the cause of your problem otherwise you will do more harm other than fixing it.

Restarting the system is not always a solution:

The most common misconception people have is that by restarting their system they can fix the problem but then there is a possibility that it will just exaggerate their problem. Do keep a record of everything you do so that if there is need of an expert they can be made aware about what all was done before the problem occurred.

Telxcomputers, the Miami’s favorite  Information Technology service company, is proud to announce their success in reaching 10,000 IT users. Telxcomputers full-service IT outsourcing expands their clients’ IT capabilities as needed with exceptional service by offering a proactive, fixed-price support programs that keep their IT spending under control, while delivering proactive network monitoring and support.
As a leading computer repair services provider for small businesses, Telx recommends on five questions every small business should ask when choosing an IT provider.

Do they understand the business and technology? A business needs a provider who already works with similar businesses and knows the technology, software, and which hardware to use.

Is the provider able to provide support remotely, on-site and how fast? While it may seem comforting to have a technician physically come to the office with tools in hand, the convenience and speed of remote service and support is invaluable. Remote support is faster and more efficient.

Do they work nights, weekends, 24/7? When does the business most need service and help? If it’s retail, hospitality, transportation, or any other business where 9-to-5 doesn’t apply, it is better to deal with a provider who is available 24/7.A provider who is daylight-only may increase prices for after-hours and holiday support.

Do they offer preventive, proactive help? It’s always best to have a relationship with an IT provider before something happens, someone who knows the network already. When a network crashes or the computers go dark, that is not the time to start hunting for help. Second, it is good to know what preventive services they provide, to help spot potential problems before something breaks. This can involve scanning the computers for rogue code, troubleshooting the network and testing it for performance issues.

How do they charge, what do they provide? While it may seem prudent to arrange for support on an a la carte basis, only when something breaks, that practice can be unpredictable and costly. Which can be especially irritating when the problem could have been prevented. Or a simple question could have been answered in no time. A better option, more and more common, is an all-inclusive monthly subscription fee – either per user or for the entire business. Depending on the provider, this monthly fee can include whatever immediate services may be required, along with some combination of proactive and preventive services that can include performance tests, scanning for viruses and malware, along with data back-up, hosting or other ancillary services.

Just like many of the memory shortages you might have heard about, there is currently a hard drive shortage in the market. Recently hard drive prices have begun to creep up and consumers are noticing the difference. Example: While a 1Tb (Terabyte) drive used to cost sixty dollars a couple months back, now the same drive is nearing the hundred dollar mark. Market analysts and some companies such as Apple Co. are warning that prices could jump significantly in the fourth quarter. This jump in price will affect the overall cost of cost of a desktop computer by about 50 dollar. The shortage is due to massive floods in Thailand. Many factories have been destroyed or closed down due to these floods and a good amount of computer components are produced in Thailand including hard drives. The prime minister of Thailand stated that the floods are not expected to recede for about six weeks and even if it happens, roads will have to be repaired to resume logistics.

The HDD drive motor manufacturer Nidec, which supplies between 70-80 percent of the market with motors, is expected to limit production due to flooding. Western Digital, a well-known and respected hard drive manufacturer has indicated that they have about 2 weeks of hard drive in stock. This flood is also affecting companies like Asustek, which is a common manufacturer of motherboards. With these floods experts expect a rise in cost of components and with that the consumer will take a hit until supplies are returned to normal.

Our outsourced IT Services helps expand our clients’ IT capabilities and enhance their operations. We deliver proactive network monitoring, support, and server-scheduled maintenance with fixed-price support programs that keep your IT spending under control.

Operating Systems – The Bridge Between You & Your Computer

operating systemsOn previous articles we gave a very general look at how your computer hardware works. On this article we will approach the next layer or system, which is the Operative System. Computers work with hardware and software. Hardware is made by the electronic/mechanical parts that run low level code that actually controls the computer hardware. Operative Systems operate above the hardware level; providing a bridge between the user applications and the computer hardware.

Popular consumer grade Operative Systems are Microsoft Windows, Apple OS X, or the different Linux distributions. Basically Operative Systems are huge compilations of software/code and data written in low level as well as high level programming languages. Their main function is to manage the computer hardware and provide basic functions on the user level. So this basically means that your OS (Operating Systems) is an intermediary between the complex and low level hardware and the application/software that users have access to.

Operating Systems typical functions on the hardware level are: memory allocation, handling and answering input and output requests, plus so much more! On the user level they provide general applications for hardware maintenance such as hard drive maintenance. The OS main code, or Kernel, also creates and assigns resources to different processes created by the different applications.

Modern Operating Systems are able to multitask. This means that they can handle different processes in a smart way. This happens so fast and it’s so intelligently programmed that users get the illusion that everything is running at the same time on their computer. There is so much that a OS can do by itself; creating a dependence between the OS efficiency and the computer hardware. If the hardware is not on par with the OS, then the OS will struggle trying to provide a smooth user interaction.

There have been several types of Operating Systems since their inception in the 1950s. They all use different techniques and are engineered differently. These details are out of the scope of this article. However, keep in mind that Operating Systems can be found on almost any device running software. You might be familiar with Windows or Mac OS, but you can probably see them at work in your smart phones or home appliances such as TVs or DVRs. At Telx we work every day to keep your workstation and server’s OS running smooth. Configuring and securing them so they can function at their optimal levels of efficiency along your computer hardware.

You Use One Daily, So Do You Know How Computers Work?how a computer works

Most people use one without actually knowing how a computer works. Just in the same way we don’t need to understand how our cars work in order to drive them, we don’t really need t o know how a computer works to use one. However, it is always good to know at least that a car’s engine needs oil to operate, even if we don’t know why. But it’s good to know nonetheless because this helps with the automobile maintenance schedule. I will give an extremely basic explanation on how computers actually function. This will give you a better idea on what to expect from your computer and how to take care of it.

– Software & Hardware –

What Makes Computers Work

The hardware is the electronic parts that are actually tangible. These could be the hard drive, the motherboard, and every other physical component in the computer. There are certain hardware components that a computer needs in order to work. These components are inside your workstation’s tower, for example: The motherboard, RAM memory, Hard Drive, and Processor. These components are essential to a working computer. Monitors, mice, sound cards, and more are also considered hardware and they can be present or not, just depends upon the computer’s system requirements and configuration.

Software on the other hand, is what allows the hardware to work and allow users to operate it. Software is made up of intangible code or instruction sets that tell the hardware how and what to do. Computer hardware would be useless without the software giving orders. The opposite also holds true. Software wouldn’t “exist” without hardware. This is because Software, programs, etc, need to sit or reside on some type of memory storage, let it be hard disk space or RAM memory. Software is processed by the computer’s main processor or CPU.

A Simpler Explanation!

For an easier way to picture how a computer works, compare it with the human body. The main processor would be the “brain,” which handles all the instruction, or “thoughts,” and thus controlling the whole system, including the all of the hardware, complete tasks and perform various functions. This is an extremely basic explanation on how a computer operates, but it should be enough to provide a raw idea on how a computer system works. In another article we will explain how your Operative System works with your computer to help you accomplish different tasks.
